Hi, I’m Becks
I'm a psychotherapist and registered social worker who supports neurodivergent trans and queer people in unmasking, coming out, embodying gender, setting boundaries, and getting unstuck.
I am an out and proud AuDHD, agender, queer survivor. As someone with lived experience, my goal is to create a therapeutic space where you don’t have to explain or defend who you are.
My work has always been shaped by my lifelong special interest in the intersection of trauma, systems violences, and personal healing. I am passionate about transforming the systems that disable and dehumanize us. I believe personal change is about healing from those systems and finding new ways to resist them, not just through our activism, but through our embodiment, our relationships, our pleasure and our joy.
Being a therapist is only one small part of who I am. I am also a lifelong learner, an educator, a creative, a maker of things, a member of many vibrant communities, a self proclaimed queerdo, celebrator and lover of other queerdos, a chronically ill AuDHD survivor and a single parent. I am honoured to tend and be tended by a myriad of other living beings (including my community garden plot, my very cool kiddo, and a recent hive of honeybees).
Working with me
-
I utilize an integrative framework that combines a feminist, trauma-informed approach with Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT).
Alongside these core modalities, I carefully and intentionally incorporate tools and skills from other modalities (including DBT, somatics, IFS, and ACT) when they are indicated for a particular goal or individual temperament.

My work is fundamentally collaborative and relational. In the early stages of therapy, we work together to identify your goals, and to make a plan for how to approach them. This plan will evolve over time, as we get to know each other, and we both better understand your history and your nervous system habits. Often, what clients see as “the problem” ends up being a protective mechanism that we can make friends with on the way to working toward more authentic feeling goals and changes.
I see therapy as a mirror. As we move through the world, we are constantly seeing ourself reflected back through the fun house mirrors of generational trauma, systems that don’t fit us, expectations of late capitalism. I strive to be a kinder, clearer mirror for my clients, reflecting back not only what you want to change, but your essential goodness, your strengths, and your ability to evolve and create the life and relationships you want to have.
-
I am deeply committed to client-centered, anti-racist, anti-oppressive and harm reduction philosophies, rooted in the activism and advocacy of my own intersecting feminist, queer, and neurodiverse communities, and of racial justice and Indigenous solidarity movements.
I affirm and celebrate all forms of bodily autonomy and self determination, including body positivity & fat acceptance; sex work, poly, & kink experience & community; and liberatory movements including MAD & disability justice, racial justice, and decolonizing struggles.

Over the last 20+ years I’ve worked in a diverse array of community settings, including rape crisis centres, emergency shelters & supportive housing, a treatment program, and more recently as a trauma counselor in a feminist gender based violence organization.
Populations served include: Sexual and gender based violence survivors, 2SLGBTQ* youth, undergraduate students who are experiencing marginalization and systems failures, as well as a diverse population of youth and adults experiencing complex issues including housing instability, mental health distress, & unwanted substance use.
My community work has always reflected my fundamental belief that everyone can be supported to heal, make changes in our lives, and find our places within communities of resistance and support.
